COSSOR
494A. A popular a.c mains valve radio, made in 1949. It employs long, medium,
& short wave bands. It is housed in a bakelite cabinet of unusual design
- there was a model 500 to this design in a wood cabinet, and also modifications
to this series in the 1950's. The valve line-up consists of :-
7S7,
7B7, 7C6, 7C5, 7Y4.
My
set required a new mains transformer, as I had found to my horror, someone
had previously installed one, but they had reversed the h.t and l.t wires,
causing the transformer to burn out it's insulation.
This
range of receivers is known as the "MELODY MAKER". It can also be
recognised by it's unusual control knobs.
