Philips 470A
The
Philips 470A is an a.c mains valve radio, which was made in 1938. It has long,
medium & short wave band reception.
It employs the following valves in its circuitry:-
FC4, VP4B, PEN4DD, 1821
The scale lamp is 4 volt @ 0.5 amp, and is difficult to source in the U.K.
I managed to obtain one from a supplier in The Netherlands. The scale display
is quite impressive once cleaned. The cord drive layout can be copied from
similar post war Philips radios.
In order to restore these radios, it is recommended that all rubber wiring
should be replaced with modern equivalent type, and that all pitch coated
capacitors should be replaced with modern types, along with electrolytic smoothing
capacitors.
My radio had a break in the cabinet, towards the back. I managed to repair
this with aluminium and epoxy resin
